HTC Forays into Myanmar's Smartphone Market
January 18, 2013

Taiwan-based Smartphone maker HTC signed an exclusive agency contract with Myanmar's largest internet mobile phone distributor KMD Computer Group on January 14, with an aim to tap the market opportunities in the Myanmar Smartphone market, which is currently still dominated by value-line phones, according to a report by Taiwan's China Times. As part of the contract, KMD will help HTC open flagship stores and customer service centers in major Myanmar cities, such as Yangon and Mandala. The Smartphones sold by HTC are equipped with tailor-made Android operating systems for the Burmese language. With a pre-installed application shop, dubbed 1Mobile, HTC can provide its subscribers with more than 200,000 free applications. Various HTC Smartphones, including Butterfly, One series, and Desire series, are scheduled to hit the market in Myanmar in January at the earliest.
